This sheet allows the calculation of the inertial properties of a choice of standard profiles.
The calculations are based onto the theoretical geometry, as defined by the relevant standards; some of the dimensions (of minor importance) may be guessed, when they do not appear in the standard.
The warping dependent section properties (mainly those that are used for a torsion analisys), are calculated by means of the application sectionproperties by Robbie van Leeuwen. The torsion modulus is obtained from the maximum calculated torsional shear stress in the section, after discarding the stresses in the reentrant corners having a fillet radius smaller than 1/8th the diagonal dimension of the section. This calculated modulus should be lower, by a small amount, with respect to what is generally accepted in engineering calculations, based on simple formulae.
